A question about technique rather than about dose.

I have been doing the same thing for 15 months and it works, and then I read one of the documentation pages here and realised I may have been reasoning from a misunderstanding the whole time. Nothing has gone wrong; I would just like to understand why it has not.

What I do, exactly, is described below. Please tell me which parts are load-bearing and which are superstition.

For anyone arriving from a search: the marked solution above is the direct answer, and the replies underneath it add the caveats that make it safe to use.

Dose counters: pens show the remaining number of doses. When the counter reaches zero, the pen is empty and cannot deliver more. Noting the counter before injection prevents running out unexpectedly.

Storage after first use: most pens can be stored at room temperature after first use, even if unrefrigerated, for a limited time (often 28 days). Check your specific pen's labelling.

Injection duration: most pens deliver the dose over several seconds. Holding the button down for the full duration ensures complete delivery. Releasing early can result in underdosing.

This follows post #48 rather than contradicting it.

I disagree with the reply above, and I think the disagreement is substantive rather than terminological.

The distinction being drawn does not survive when you look at the published data for this specific question. I would be glad to be shown wrong on this, because the version I am arguing against is more convenient.

Needle installation: some pens require a fresh needle for each injection; others have a single needle that stays attached. Check the design of your pen.

Priming: most pens require priming before the first use (injecting a small amount to fill the needle and line). Not priming can result in no dose being delivered on the first injection.
